As a permanent resident of United States of America, you have limited benefits compared to U.S. citizens. However, there are many important reasons to consider the U.S. citizenship.
The citizenship offers new rights, privileges, benefits, and responsibilities. There are some requirements you must complete to be a candidate.
1. You must be 18 years old or more to present the N400 form, application for naturalization
2. You must be a legal permanent resident for at least 5 or 3 years if you are married with a US citizen.
3. You must prove you have lived at least 3 months in the state or the USCIS district you are applying.
4. Prove of continuous residence in United States for a least 5 years when you present the application.
5. Prove you have been physically present in Unites States for at least 30 months of 5 years when you present the application for citizenship.
6. Be able to speak, read and write basic English.
7. Be a person of “good moral character.”
8. Have basic understanding of the history and government (civic) of Unites State
Only U.S. citizens can vote in federal elections. Most of states limit votes, in most of elections, only to U.S. citizens.
Only U.S. citizens can serve on a federal jury. Most of states limit the service as jury to U.S. citizens. Jury service is an important responsibility of U.S. citizens.
In most of cases, a born child from U.S. parents abroad, is a U.S. citizen automatically.
